Who We Are

Northway Natives, Inc. (NNI) is the corporation established for the village of Northway under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA), passed on December 18, 1971. NNI became official on July 1, 1973, when its Articles of Incorporation were approved by the State of Alaska.

Besides our shareholders, the land is the most important consideration for NNI. ANCSA was all about the land and being able to use it as our people have for a millennium. Our connection to the land is cultural, survival related, and spiritual.

Financial Management

Responsible stewardship of corporate funds, beginning with the $1,240,806 received from the Alaska Native Fund. Income today also comes from our operations and annual 7(i) resource sharing under ANCSA.

Our Operations

NNI's sister corporation, Naabia Niign, Ltd., was established in 1979 to create and oversee our subsidiary businesses. A five-member board, appointed by the NNI Board of Directors, oversees this entity.

These ventures provide income for the corporation as well as local employment and important services for those who live in Northway and for highway travelers. NNI and Naabia Niign are a large part of the economic engine of Northway, and a hub for the community.

Day-to-day management of NNI and Naabia Niign is handled by a General Manager for the corporation's subsidiary business entities.
